Prom Dress Choices

No matter how much a girl prepares herself with makeup, hairstyles and accessories, majority of it all still boils down to choosing the perfect prom dress and/or prom gown from among the various prom dresses that she would wear for prom night. Once a girl chooses the perfect dress, she could feel a huge burden being lifted off of her.

Prom Shoes

Having blisters on your feet can be a prom disaster. If you have ever had them in your life, you probably know that they are the last thing you want to worry about on prom night. Do you want to risk sitting around while your friends are partying? We think not! Heels can be rather harsh on the feet and shoe straps can really cause pain. The best way to control this problem is to use a blister prevention stick.

Prom 2011, Prom Dresses, Prom Gowns

Never jump into the first prom dress decision without a second thought. You should always do three things: Stop, breath, and think. If you do these three things in a moment such as this then you are guaranteed to make a better decision than if you had just grabbed the credit card and went to town.

Don’t Assume Any Color Will Work

Just because the prom dress looks great on the hanger doesn’t mean it will go perfectly with your complexion and hair color. Make sure to take your friends or parents with you to help find the best color for you. If you have a light complexion and bright red hair, a ruby colored dress may not be the best choice. On the other hand, you may want to avoid lime green if you’ve been blessed with a rich olive complexion. Make sure the color makes your complexion look good rather than washed out.

Learning to dance before prom night, prom dresses

Despite being such a valued skill among young people, hardly anyone is actually taught to dance. But with prom night upcoming, for some, it's now a matter of necessity!

It's sometimes surprising how many people find themselves approaching their graduation before ever learning to dance. It is a skill appreciated in all but actually taught to very few!

Fortunately, dancing is much easier than you initially might fear, and after only a practice session or two, anyone can manage it well enough to join the crowd on prom night. There are two types you'll see at the typical junior high/high school proms: slow dancing, and fast.

Slow dancing - the easier of the two, and perhaps less-feared - is generally comprised of a couple dancing together to slow, mellow music. Customarily, a boy without a partner would observe the girls without partners (on the sidelines, as they are expected to move off the dance floor) and ask one by requesting, "Would you like to dance?" "May I have this dance?" or something similar. Once a girl accepts, they would proceed to a place on the dance floor, where the boy places his hands on the girl's hips (standard) or joins his hands at the small of her back (drawing them much closer, and making it more intimate). It is fine for a boyfriend and girlfriend to dance in the latter position, but for a first-time dancer you may want to start at the hips. (Also, the boy must remember not to let his hands slip down onto the girl's backside, particularly if it's someone he's trying to impress!)

Prom Hairstyle Prom Dress

Beautiful hair is a woman's most noticeable feminine feature. The right prom hairstyles are crucial to looking your best on prom night. Your prom hair needs to accentuate your dress, your makeup, and your face.
There is no one hairstyle or color that will work for every woman, but there is a look that is just right for you. So the overall goal is to be not just more beautiful but more confident and comfortable with who you are.

Plan ahead and when the prom arrives, your hair will look absolutely gorgeous.

Prom Dresses, Prom Gowns

Prom trends for 2010 also focus on length, with short prom dresses taking the dance floor by storm. Strapless and halter dresses are also favorite prom trends for 2010, and can work for almost any body type. A strapless dress tends to feature elegant shoulders and neckline, while also attracting attention to a girl’s facial features. The halter dress works well for plus-size teens, and also benefits those that are top heavy. Designers present these prom trends for 2010 in a couple of different ways. A baby doll length dress decorated with the simple elegance of a jewel-encrusted empire bodice; or the same thigh-high length in a shimmery fabric that ends in a party-girl hem. No matter what your personal style the prom trends for 2010 have something to suit your individual taste.

Prom Dress Attire, Prom Gowns on A Budget

Going to the prom can be an expensive decision, especially if your family is on a budget. I remember my little sister’s prom. She was so excited and wanted the perfect prom dress. Cheap was what we were looking for. She wanted her hair and nails done too. That can be costly unless you do it yourself or find a beauty school and hire a student. We actually hit our local dollar store for accessories and nail appliqués.

How To Plan A Prom, Prom Dress, Prom Gown

From Casey Lewis, for About.com

The theme of your decorations is one of the most influential decisions on how your prom plays out. With dazzling, impressive decs, the enthusiasm and excitement will be infectious. The best route is to order a variety of party decoration catalogs. There are infinite themes available, so access your options, pitch in a handful ideas, then have the entire committee vote on one collective prom motif. Want to know more? Read about the top five prom decoration themes.

Select invitations
Although students won't be basing their decision to attend prom on how tempting the invitations look, the formal invite is a very sentimental element of prom, especially for the departing senior class. The prom committee inspects hundreds of varieties, finally settling on the chosen one that is both unique and worth holding on to.

Choose the DJ or band
The music truly sets the mood for the entire evening of prom, and it's on the shoulders of the committee members to find the perfect soundtrack. A DJ specializing in '80s tunes may be the go-to guy for a certain clientele, but those tunes were in heavy rotation before we knew how to spell Timberlake. When it comes to getting the prom party started, look for DJs or bands that play a variety of Top 40 hits with a nice infusion of dance party classics.

Plan the menu
Whether you do an entire sit-down dinner or simply hors d'oeuvres, prom-goers like to get the bang for their buck. It's up to you to create a crowd-pleasing menu, so focus on foods that are widely-adored: chicken, good... tofu, bad; an assortment of cupcakes, good... German chocolate cake, bad.

Order party favors
After months of planning the perfect prom, you owe it to yourself - and your classmates - to have a festive party favor at the end of the night. The committee should put their heads together to find something memorable, celebratory, and above all budget-friendly. Most prom catalogs include favors that coordinate with the theme, but think outside the box and consider local goods (baked goods, candles, candy, et cetera).

PROM DRESSES IN A DOWN ECONOMY

By: Alyssa Wagner

The walls are plastered with prom pictures and clippings from newspapers and fashion magazines. And at 10:15 at Lincoln High School in Stockton, California, dozens of fashion design students take their seats and go to town on sewing machines…

One girl alters a friend's jeans for a few extra bucks, and others are making hoodies. Stephanie Hernandez is one of six students designing her own prom dress. She's an outside-the-box fashionista who’s known in the class for pulling off inexpensive fashion feats, like the dress she designed for winter formal. “My parents told me they had a budget for my dress and all the dresses I wanted were really expensive,” so Hernadez decided “To make my own out of teen vogue magazines. And it was really cheap, it only cost me $10.”

Ten dollars for the packing tape she used to assemble magazine cut outs into a strapless cocktail dress. Now Stephanie Hernandez is splurging a bit for the prom by making a duct tape dress for 20 bucks! “I think it takes some brains and some creativity if you want to do stuff on your own,” Hernandez says “And I think when you spend less money and are more resourceful you're dress ends up being more unique and memorable. Than if you spend a lot of money and you tuck it behind your closet and never see it again.”

Girls have long been making their own prom dresses at Lincoln High School, but this year there are incentives other than just personal expression. Gail McAuley is the fashion design teacher at Lincoln High, and she says the economic downturn has significantly affected Stockton, “We have been number one in foreclosures, our jobless rate is rising rapidly. So, economic problems have hit us badly.”

McAuley says even using high quality fabrics, girls can still save money making their own prom dresses, “A short dress is usually about 2 yards. If it's a long dress, they may need up to 4 yards. So my guess is it's going to be more like 40 -50 dollars for a prom dress, which is still cheap.”

But according to McAuley, desperate local department stores are offering rock bottom sales – so low that thrifty students can sometimes find store bought prom dresses for as little as 30 or 40 dollars. But most students don't find dresses for anywhere near that price, because there's another concern that typically trumps cost…finding the "perfect" dress.

Across the country at Grady High School in Atlanta, Georgia, students are pushing to preserve the extravagance of prom, and voted against holding prom at the school to save money. Danè White says even with a deep recession, most girls would rather skimp on dinner and the limo than the prom dress, “I think dresses are a big deal for prom. It's about interacting and checking out what people have on. I feel like dresses are really important this year and people aren't going to slack off just because of the economy issue.

White works at Old Navy to earn extra money so she can pay for her prom dress. She studies fashion design at Grady High School's Urban Couture program. Student designers there have the super glam abilities to make their own prom dresses - they design entire lines of clothing their senior year. Vincent Martinez runs the fashion program where students have resisted making their own prom dresses, “What I find amazing is that the students that I teach, and I have predominantly female students, they are looking online for dresses. They’re ranging from 2-300 dollars up to even 600. That is no different than last year, the year before that, or the year before that.

Martinez calls the prom dress splurge an economic stimulus of its own. But he says it's more than that, “It is a rite of passage. Society tells our teenage girls, and this has been going on for generations, ‘You don't really make your own dress. You’re not supposed to. You’re supposed to go out and shop for one.’”

But don't tell that to Lincoln High's Stephanie Hernandez. She’s still feeling great about her winter formal dress, “I don't think I missed out. I actually though it was super cool to have something that you made and nobody else has it, and when other people complement on it, your just kinda like woo woo.”

Hernandez also expects to feel woo woo about her 20 dollar duct tape dress which she'll wear at prom on May 9th. She even hopes to make a little college cash by winning a competition from a duct tape manufacturer offering a $3,000 scholarship to the best duct tape MacGyver-ish prom outfit.

Prom Gowns, Prom Dresses

Gillian Laub for The New York Times
About now, high-school seniors everywhere slip into a glorious sort of limbo. Waiting out the final weeks of the school year, they begin rightfully to revel in the shared thrill of moving on. It is no different in south-central Georgia’s Montgomery County, made up of a few small towns set between fields of wire grass and sweet onion. The music is turned up. Homework languishes. The future looms large. But for the 54 students in the class of 2009 at Montgomery County High School, so, too, does the past. On May 1 — a balmy Friday evening — the white students held their senior prom. And the following night — a balmy Saturday — the black students had theirs.

The white students’ prom was held on May 1 at a community center in nearby Vidalia; the black students had theirs at the same place the following night.

Racially segregated proms have been held in Montgomery County — where about two-thirds of the population is white — almost every year since its schools were integrated in 1971. Such proms are, by many accounts, longstanding traditions in towns across the rural South, though in recent years a number of communities have successfully pushed for change. When the actor Morgan Freeman offered to pay for last year’s first-of-its-kind integrated prom at Charleston High School in Mississippi, his home state, the idea was quickly embraced by students — and rejected by a group of white parents, who held a competing “private” prom. (The effort is the subject of a documentary, “Prom Night in Mississippi,” which will be shown on HBO in July.) The senior proms held by Montgomery County High School students — referred to by many students as “the black-folks prom” and “the white-folks prom” — are organized outside school through student committees with the help of parents. All students are welcome at the black prom, though generally few if any white students show up. The white prom, students say, remains governed by a largely unspoken set of rules about who may come. Black members of the student council say they have asked school administrators about holding a single school-sponsored prom, but that, along with efforts to collaborate with white prom planners, has failed. According to Timothy Wiggs, the outgoing student council president and one of 21 black students graduating this year, “We just never get anywhere with it.” Principal Luke Smith says the school has no plans to sponsor a prom, noting that when it did so in 1995, attendance was poor.

Students of both races say that interracial friendships are common at Montgomery County High School. Black and white students also date one another, though often out of sight of judgmental parents. “Most of the students do want to have a prom together,” says Terra Fountain, a white 18-year-old who graduated from Montgomery County High School last year and is now living with her black boyfriend. “But it’s the white parents who say no. … They’re like, if you’re going with the black people, I’m not going to pay for it.”

“It’s awkward,” acknowledges JonPaul Edge, a senior who is white. “I have as many black friends as I do white friends. We do everything else together. We hang out. We play sports together. We go to class together. I don’t think anybody at our school is racist.” Trying to explain the continued existence of segregated proms, Edge falls back on the same reasoning offered by a number of white students and their parents. “It’s how it’s always been,” he says. “It’s just a tradition.”
Earlier this month, on the Friday night of the white prom, Kera Nobles, a senior who is black, and six of her black classmates drove over to the local community center where it was being held. Standing amid a crowd of about 80 parents, siblings and grandparents, they snapped pictures and whooped appreciatively as their white friends — blow-dried, boutonniered and glittering in a way that only high-school seniors can — did their “senior walk,” parading in elegant pairs into the prom. “We got stared at a little, being there,” said one black student, “but it wasn’t too bad.”

After the last couple were announced, after they watched the white people’s father-daughter dance and then, along with the other bystanders, were ushered by chaperones out the door, Kera and her friends piled into a nearby KFC to eat. Whatever elation they felt for their dressed-up classmates was quickly wearing off

Prom Dress, Prom Gown Facts

In 1997, Academy Award–winning actor Morgan Freeman offered to pay for the senior prom at Charleston High School in Mississippi under one condition: the prom had to be racially integrated. His offer was ignored. In 2008, Freeman offered again. This time the school board accepted, and history was made. Charleston High School had its first-ever integrated prom—in 2008! Until then, blacks and whites had had separate proms even though their classrooms have been integrated for decades. Canadian filmmaker Paul Saltzman follows students, teachers, and parents in the lead-up to the big day. Freeman addresses the student body. Girls shop for dresses and get their hair done. Boys rent tuxedoes and buy corsages. These seemingly inconsequential rites of passage suddenly become profound as the weight of history falls on teenage shoulders. We quickly learn that change does not come easily in this sleepy Delta town. Freeman’s generosity fans the flames of racism—and racism in Charleston has a distinctly generational tinge. Some white parents forbid their children to attend the integrated prom and hold a separate white-only dance. ""Billy Joe,"" an enlightened white senior, appears on camera in shadow, fearing his racist parents will disown him if they know his true feelings. Prom Night In Mississippi captures a big moment in a small town, where hope finally blossoms in black, white, and a whole lot of taffeta.

Proms in Russia and CIS countries
Russian proms are called 'Vipusknoy vecher', which literally means 'evening of graduation'. They take place on the 20th of June, after all state exams are completed. Proms took place on June 21st in 1941, however, on the 22nd all graduates were drafted to participate in the Soviet invasion during World War II.
First, all graduates receive their atestats (or diplomas). Students with higher marks receive them first. Prom gowns and prom dresses.

Afterward, the prom continues as a school ball, traditionally with classic dances. Students may choose restaurants, cafes, or ships rather than school grounds to hold the events. Prom may held in a Discotheque, but it must start with the school waltz.
At the conclusion of the prom evening, it is tradition to walk the whole night and watch sunrise in the morning (on a hill, if applicable, in Moscow - Sparrow Hills).

Australasia, Asia and Africa
In Australian and New Zealand schools, if the event is not relegated solely to the final year, it may be described as a Ball, School Formal, or simply Formal. If the event is in the final year of high school, it is sometimes called a Dinner-dance, Leavers' Dinner, Debutante Ball, or Valedictory Dinner, but can still be called a School Formal or Formal. The Formal celebrates completing the "Higher School Certificate" and includes a dinner and dance. The wear prom gowns.

In Egypt, most private schools have proms similar to ones held in the USA but with slight differences.

In India, the equivalent is a farewell party or farewell gathering. The outgoing students are given a warm send-off by the junior students and staff. All the seniors are felicitated with souvenirs and soperlatives are given awards.

In Israel, the proms are very similar to American proms. Proms are not sponsored by the government and there are groups of students who take care of organizing the proms.

In Malaysia, proms are gaining more popularity. They are held by more and more schools, especially in the bigger cities. However, these gatherings are usually organized by students, and the school administration is not involved.

In Pakistan, the equivalent to the American prom is a farewell dinner or farewell function that takes place at the end of the college academic year. In farewell function one lady is appointed "Lady of the Evening" and one guy is appointed "Gentleman of the Evening".

In the Philippines prom is popular in high schools. Two proms take place in High school: one where seniors cater to juniors and another where juniors cater to seniors.

In South Africa, the equivalent to American prom is the Matric Dance, taking place during the matriculation (i.e. final) year of high school (12th grade). It takes place towards the end of the third quarter, shortly before the spring break, after which the Matriculation Examinations commence. It usually takes the form of a formal dinner and dance. In most schools the 11th grade class is responsible for arranging the event. Sometimes the teachers and parents also attend.

In Sri Lanka, the equivalent to the American prom is the graduation after-party, or batch party.

In Vietnam, the equivalent to the prom is called lien hoan cuoi nam.

Prom Dress, Prom 2010 Activities

Americas
In Canada, most schools have the same traditions as those in the United States, except Prom is only held for the graduating class. There is no prom held for Grade 11 (except in the province of Quebec, where grade 11 is the last year. It is strictly a ceremony celebrating students' graduation from high school.

In Argentina there are also proms or "fiestas de graduación" for students finishing their last year of high school. There are big parties for teenagers in local discos and graduates usually wear costumes to be identified from others. They usually hold formal dinners with parents too, but students dress formally.

In Costa Rica, alike many other American countries, the "Baile de graduación" is celebrated after finishing High School, where grade 11 is also the last year, it usually takes place before graduation, to celebrate, finally, the end of school. It's normally held in hotels or saloons with a dance-floor, music and dinner. It starts with the students walking through the dance-floor and dancing a waltz, the dinner comes after, and the rest of the night is taken by the dancing and celebration.

In Brazil, bailes de formatura are usual at the end of high school and at college graduation. There is no crowning of a "king" or a "queen," but evening gowns and suits are required. Family may or may not be included, and there may be a live band or DJ hired to command the music.

In Chile, proms, or "fiestas de graduación" (graduation parties), are usually held at convention centers or hotels after the "licenciatura," or graduation from High School. They can also be held after taking the PSU (Chilean University Entrance Exam) in December. Students are expected to dress formally. They are allowed to go with dates, friends, or relatives. They usually start with people dancing a waltz and then dinner. After the dinner, the parents leave, and the dance continues through the night into the next day. Food and alcoholic drinks are available during the party.

In Colombia many private schools usually have prom balls as well, usually consisting of a dinner, dancing, live music, and contests. They are usually held at hotels or clubs.

In Peru, proms—"Fiesta de Promocion"—are usually held at hotels, convention centers, or big residences. The dress code is prom gown formal. Some parents and teachers are often invited, but they don't stay the whole night. Dinner is served as well as alcoholic drinks and delicatessen. Breakfast is often served the next day, at around 6-7 am. There is a growing tradition to hold a "Pre-Prom" for the students in the class below the graduating class, and even a "Pre-pre-Prom" for the students in the class below that.

In the United States, Some American Christian high schools and colleges that do not allow school-sponsored dances will host a Junior/Senior prom. Rather than the event being a dance, a banquet is held instead. Typically, students still dress in formal attire and even bring dates.

Prom Dress Attire

Boys usually dress in tuxedos, sometimes paired with brightly colored ties.
Girls traditionally wear dresses. They may purchase their prom dresses from specialized shops, boutiques, and more recently, internet retailers. There are many speciality labels selling prom dresses that release new collections each prom season. Some of the biggest labels include Mori Lee, Flirt, Precious Formals, Dynasty, Dana Mathers (Strangelove), Jovani, Sherri Hill (formerly a Jovani designer), Xcite, and Tony Bowles.

Despite the level of choice, one of the difficulties girls face when choosing a dress is the risk of wearing the same dress as another girl. Shops and boutiques have tried to deal with this problem by keeping dress registry books. These shops will use books to register the dress purchased against the name of the prom it will be worn to in order to avoid selling the same dress for the same prom[citation needed]. In 2009 this idea was taken a step further by the UK company Prom Royalty, who launched an automated online dress registry as part of their online prom dress shop.

Traditionally girls will also wear a corsage, given to them by their dates, and girls give boys matching boutonnières to be worn on their lapel.

Prom Dress, Prom 2010 Activities

Pre-prom activities will typically include a visit to friends' homes for group photographs.

A group of friends might rent a limousine to transport large groups to prom.
Common prom activities include (but are not limited to) dining, dancing, the crowning of a prom "king" and "queen," and socializing.

For high school proms in the United States, some communities hold "after-prom,"an activity run by parents, teachers, and community leaders for prom attendees after the formal prom dress events. Post-prom may be held at a different location and might include raffles, games or a late night meals. Post-proms are organized to discourage after prom activities such as under-aged drinking and sexual activity. "Post-post prom" activities such as trips to local parks or amusement parks often extending well into the next day after the prom evening.

About Prom Dresses, Prom Gowns

In the United States and Canada, a prom, short for promenade, is a formal (black tie) dance, or gathering of high school students. It is held at the end of senior year. In the United Kingdom, the term is more widely understood to be in reference to a season of classical concerts, or "proms," which have been held between the months of July and September since 1895 by the BBC. The British synonym for the North American event would be Leavers' Ball, Leavers' Dinner, Formal or, informally, Leavers' Do. This is closer to the Australian description, although in the UK, most schools have called the above events proms in imitation of the North American tradition. In Canada, Ireland, and Australia the terms Grad or Formal are most commonly used and the event is usually held for those graduating high school or middle school. In Ireland, the event is also known as the Debs, which is derived from Debutante.

Smaller schools may hold a school prom open to the entire student body. Large high schools may hold two proms, a junior prom for those finishing their 11th grade year and a senior prom for those who are graduating high school. When the junior and senior proms are combined, it is sometimes traditional to have the junior class plan, organize, and even decorate the venue for the prom. Proms are mostly attended by juniors and seniors, but some schools allow all classes to attend. This may require that the ticket buyer be an upperclassman. At some high schools, school administration may limit attendence to students of the hosting school or of nearby schools. In rare cases, alumni may attend prom with current students, but the school may place age restrictions on such prom participants. The Junior and Senior classes may participate in fund raisers throughout the school year to reduce the cost of prom. It is estimated about 8 million girls attend prom in the United States each year.

Prom tickets are sold at school and are traditionally purchased by boys for the couple. They can also be bought individually. It is not unusual for people attending prom as friends to purchase a "couple's ticket." The cost of half of one couple's ticket is generally less than that of one for an individual.

Plus Size Prom Dresses and Prom Gowns

So you’re not a size 5. Does that mean that you can’t have the perfect prom night in the perfect prom dress? Of course not!

These days, clothing manufacturers recognize that there are very few people who look like the supermodels who walk the runway, and that those styles just don’t look right on the average figure. So now you can benefit from what all of the major prom dress manufacturers have discovered, and look your very best in specially designed plus size prom dresses.

This means that you can find those very same gorgeous gowns that have been made for your straight-sized counterparts, and you can look just as hot on that special prom night.

So what’s out there for you for prom night 2010? Primarily, the strapless dress. This is going to be the biggest hit this year, so you shouldn’t shy away from this hip fashion trend. There are tons of ways that your curvy body can look fabulous with the right dress for the right silhouette. For one thing, strapless gowns allow you to show off your sexy shoulders, drawing the eye to some of your most striking features. Moreover, bare necklines and shoulders make your face appear to be longer and slimmer. Wear your hair up (if you have long hair) to maximize that sexy appearance. If you’re a bit uncomfortable with your arms, you can add a stunning, flowing shawl to any strapless prom dress. Simply wrap it loosely around your shoulders, and tie it in the back. With this technique, you’ll still have the dazzling open neckline, and you’ll feel comfortable with the look.

If this isn’t your style, or if you simply can’t imagine being comfortable in a strapless dress, consider a dress with an empire waist, as it’s the most flattering to a woman’s silhouette. There’s a good reason for this; it elongates your body, drawing attention to the bust-line. Since the seaming is directly below the bust-line, it accentuates the inward curve, before the long body, making you look slimmer and taller. Best of all, this dress style isn’t just flattering, but it’s extremely comfortable. You’ll have room to move, dance, and sit, unlike the girls who stuff themselves into something less forgiving.

No matter what dress style you choose for your perfect prom dress, you should keep the following tips in mind to be certain that it gives you the most beautiful shape:

¬ Never buy a dress that is too tight for you. Buying something that fits will make sure that you look the way the dress was designed to look, instead of accentuate the “not-so-perfect” zones with pulls and taught patches.

¬ Simple shapes are often the best for streamlining your figure. These include empire waists, A-line, and column styles.

¬ Try a full ball gown skirt to help accentuate a small waist, while hiding heavy hips, or to generally balance out your shape.

¬ If you’re looking for a shorter, cocktail-length dress for your Prom, try an asymmetrical hemline, so that you’ll look longer and slimmer, instead of looking shorter and “stumpy” with the straight-across hem that simply cuts you in half.

¬ Remember that dark colors are always more slimming than pastels or bright colors. If you have a favorite color, get the most out of it, by wearing it in a shade that suits you the best.

Naturally there are many other options out there, all specialized to helping you look your very best for one of the most important nights of your life. Have fun!

Prom Dress Q & A

Once you have found your perfect prom dress and have figured out the many accessories you will wear, your next step is to think about what hairstyle you will want to wear for your special night. Your hair has the potential too look great, it doesn't matter its texture, length, or color.

The first thing you will want to decide is whether or not you are going to have your hair professionally done, or if you are going to do it yourself. If you choose to have your hair professionally done, your best choice would be to purchase a hair magazine, or search the internet for pictures of a variety of hairstyles. Once you have selected the prom hair style that you would like, clip it out and take it with you to the hair dressers so you can give them a perfect example of your desired look. It would be wise to go to a hair dresser with whom you are comfortable with; you will want to trust the stylist in charge of your hair. If you choose to have your hair done professionally be prepared to pay anywhere between 30$-70$ for it. You will also want to remember to bring your hair accessory with you when you go, so your hair dresser can apply it as a finishing touch. Wear a shirt that is buttoned up the front, that way you won’t have to worry about ruining your finishing project before you get into your dress. As a final tip you should remember to make your hair appointment at least two weeks in advance, that way you will ensure your appointment, and you won’t have to worry about being left out in the cold.

If you decide to do your hair yourself, there are many tips that you can find in both hair style magazines, and online. If you have long hair you will want to decide if you are going to pin it up, leave it down, have it straight or make it curly. If you desire curls, tight small ringlet curls is the look of the season. If your hair naturally has body, achieving such a curl should not be a difficult task, but if your hair is very fine and straight you will need to exercise different measures in order to get your hair to not only curl, but to stay curled. If you are planning on leaving your hair straight, you will want it to look soft, sleek and shiny. There are many hair products that can assist you in achieving both of these looks. Doing your own hair is not a bad idea at all, as long as you have the patience. Experiment with different hairstyles well before the night of your prom, and you will be able to discover the one you like best.

Having a great prom hairstyle is the finishing touch to your spectacular prom outfit. If it happens that your hair does not turn out the way that you had hoped, don’t panic, and improvise. There are always ways that you can turn a disaster into your own personal masterpiece. After all, your prom is not only about you looking good, it’s about you having a great time – don’t let anything spoil it!

Showing Some Leg With Your Prom Dress

It’s that time of year – Prom. You find yourself very excited about this event that you've waited for, but now you are faced with a problem, what are you going to wear? There are countless styles of prom dresses that are available both for your purchase online, and in stores. You won’t want to wait until the last minute to do your prom dress shopping, that way you won’t have to worry about not finding anything you like. If you are not a personal fan of dresses, the idea of a classic princess prom dress may not appeal to you. That’s no problem, there are many short prom dresses available that are just as lovely, but not so frilly.

Short prom dresses are those that can be as long as just below the knee, and as short as 5-6 inches above the knee, any dress that is shorter than this isn’t really considered “prom” material. Because short prom dresses are not about the flowing flounces, one of the most important aspects to a short prom dress are its sleeves. Strapless prom dresses are always elegant looking, and they look fantastic with gloves. Spaghetti straps are also an elegant touch, and so is the one strap look. Some short prom dresses have beaded straps, it is all a matter or your own personal taste and style.

Solid black is always a popular color when it comes to short prom dresses, because it is often a complimenting sharp color. Of course, it is not the only color, and again the color you will choose and the design will be of your own personal decision.

If you choose to wear a short prom dress, the second most important feature to your outfit, will be your shoes. With a long prom dress, feet are often covered, but a short prom dress is all about showing off your legs, and therefore, your feet. Sandal strap heeled shoes are often the popular choice, because they allow you to shoe off your flashy painted toe nails and often make your foot quite attractive. A closed shoe is just as nice and dressy, but it is the more formal and classic approach to prom foot-wear. Experiment with both types of shoes, and decide which one you enjoy better.

Short prom dresses are the modern approach that has become increasingly more popular over the years. Besides being more modern, the chances of you wearing your prom dress again, if it is short, is much higher than if you purchase one that is long and princess-like.

Another great aspect about the short prom dress is that you might be interested in adding your own design. You could simply purchase a plain short dress, and obtain your own materials and create your own look. The possibilities are truly endless; all you need is a little bit of imagination, and creativity. Discover all of the short prom dresses that you can choose from online, in stores and in magazines, and look great on your prom night.

Getting Into The Perfect Prom Dress

Your Prom night is what you’ve been waiting for. There is probably no doubt that you have been planning for this special occasion for quite some time. You may have found the perfect prom gown that you absolutely love, but you have discovered that it’s a little snugger than you would like it to be. Don’t fret, you still have an opportunity to get into that perfect prom dress; all you need to do is a little bit of a work out. Most of us enjoy the idea of a good healthy work out, but it always appears to be something that is often easier said then done. If you find that you fall into this trap, you can use your prom as your incentive to lose a few pounds.

You would be surprised to learn that losing a little bit of weight is not as difficult as you would think. It does not mean that you have to take up strenuous exercise, it’s simply a matter of monitoring your diet, and keeping active. Before you even begin to exercise, set a goal for yourself. If you decide, for example, that you would like to lose five pounds, then you can begin to try out a few exercises.

The best exercise that you can participate in is walking. An active hour walk every day does not only do your shape a world of good, it also gets your blood flowing, your heart pumping and makes you feel energetic and great. Other exercises that have become quite popular that you can do in the comfort of your own home are those such as yoga. There are many different types of yoga, so you may wish to try a few of them, like Pilates, to decide which one you can commit to best. If you choose to do one of these exercises make sure that you are doing them properly and at a beginners pace. You don’t want to make the mistake of overdoing it and hurting your muscles.

As far as you diet is concerned, all you will want to ensure is that you are eating proper and healthy foods. Don’t over eat, and try eating smaller portions throughout the day, instead of large meals. By doing this, you will find that your body will be able to digest food properly, so you won’t look and feel as bloated. Make sure that you drink plenty of water (at least 8 glasses a day), that way your body will be able to flush out toxins in your body. The saying “you are what you eat” does have a ring of truth to it. Naturally, it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a treat now and then, but the point is to not over do it. Losing weight is about eating proper healthy portions of food that give your body the nutrients and protein it needs. You don’t need pills or crazy diet plans; all you need is your determination.

You can look and feel your best for your prom night, and wear that perfect dress you’ve always wanted. Develop a healthy and active life style, and you can feel great all of the time!

Accessorizing Your Prom Gown Look

Your prom is the opportunity for you to look and feel your best. It is that one special night that you will remember, so what you choose to wear, and how you choose to wear it can make all of the difference to the way your prom shines in your memory. Once you have located that perfect prom dress, you will then want to choose the correct accessories to compliment your outfit. The trick to the accessories you choose will depend heavily upon the type of look you wish to achieve for your prom. The best way for you to select your look is to narrow it down to these options – “Classic and Regal”, “Simple and Clean” or “Funky Fashion”.

If you are aiming for the “Classic and Regal” prom look, you will most likely choose a prom dress that is long, flowy and elegant. The accessories that are most suitable to this look are often short or chocker necklaces that are encrusted with beads, pearls, colorful gems, or sparkly stones. It is wise to select the matching set of earrings, or earrings that flatter the necklace. It is entirely your personal choice if you wish to wear dangling earrings or studs. The best idea would be to sample both and ask the opinion of a trust worthy critic. You may also wish to glam-up your outfit with a ring or two, a bracelet and perhaps a glittering tiara. If you are wearing a strapless dress you may wish to adorn yourself with a lovely pair of long posh satin gloves. The most popular colors for satin gloves are black and white, but you can also find them in a variety of other colors. A dainty purse will finish off your “Classic and Regal” prom look, and you’ll be dressed to the nines!

A “Simple and Clean” prom look is one that is more modern. It’s not so much about the frills as it is about looking and feeling natural. The prom dress that might appeal to you for this look could be one that is long and sleek, or short and chic. The jewelry you may wear in order to compliment your outfit should be something dainty and charming. You will also find that a small purse will also flatter your attire. The “Simple and Clean” look isn’t about being flashy it’s about the perfect touch. You don’t require gloves, a tiara or the complete set of matching jewelry, all you need is to look and feel your best. Remember it’s your prom, there is no law that states you must look like a movie stereotype; just be you, and wear what makes you feel beautiful.

The last of these looks is “Funky Fashion”, and this is a style that is geared towards those with a little more flare, and eccentric tastes. If this is where your heart lies, there is no telling what form of prom dress you will choose to wear. The accessory tips that you will need to think about, will depend most importantly on your outfit. Keep in mind that although it is fun to be wild, there is still a line you won’t wish to cross. Do not fall into the trap of becoming a fashion disaster by clashing! Stay away from excessive chunky jewelry, and conflicting colors. Most proms are formal occasions, so make sure you are aware of what is allowed before you start concocting to many racy ideas for your outfit. “Funky Fashion” is about originality and creativity. The key is to create a look for prom that compliments you.

It doesn't matter which of these fashions suits your taste. All that matters is that you feel good about how you look in your prom dress when all is said and done. You don’t need to overly concern yourself with accessories, because it’s choosing the prom dress that is usually the hardest part. Shopping for accessories is usually a fun expedition, whether it is at the mall or online, that you can enjoy with your best friends. Have a great time at your prom and take with you the one accessory that no fashion style should be without, your camera.

Choosing the Perfect Prom Dress

Your Prom is one of the most important days in your life. For that reason, choosing the absolute perfect prom dress is vital to getting the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. After all, a prom dress isn’t just a dress; it’s the difference between feeling wonderful and beautiful, and feeling like you look “okay.”

Of course, we aren’t all rolling in cash, and that tends to make things a little bit more of a challenge. However, it doesn’t mean that you can’t find that spectacular gown, just because you only have a pocket full of change to your name. You just have to know the right techniques for getting a great prom dress gown without having to spend a ton of money.

To start, have a look at some of the magazines and websites that can show you this year’s latest styles. You’ll discover what you’re looking for, if you want to be on top of the fashions of 2010. This year, you’ll see different versions of strapless, halter-top, and cowl-neck, all in the evening gown style. The colors are very bold, as are the fabrics, ranging from reds and vibrant blues, even to subtle tie-dyed, and sequined trends. Once you have an image of this year’s look, it’s time to hit the stores. The earlier, the better, since less money requires more time.

You may wish to begin your shopping at your local vintage or consignment shop. These dresses will usually cost in around $10-$80. You’ll need to visit there frequently, as they will always have new and different stock coming in, and going out. If you’re not satisfied with those stores, step into a discount store. While they may not always have the traditional formal dress that you’ve imagined, you can find something equally as beautiful, for $20-$80. Of course, you shouldn’t forget the Internet’s endless resources. Check your favorite stores for discounts that are unique to the internet, keep your eyes peeled for smaller stores that specialize in prom dresses, and have a look at online auctions, which can potentially save you a staggering amount of cash. The drawback to the online option, though, is that you won’t have any guarantee that the dress will fit, and so you might lose out on shipping the items back and forth as you try them on. If you have the time, the skill, and the inclination (or if you know someone who owes you a tremendous favor and who is very talented), you may even want to make your own prom dress. That way, you’ll get exactly the style you want, custom-fit precisely to your unique body shape. The fabric should cost you in around $50, and you’ll need a pattern on top of that.

Of course, while we all want to save money, but remember the importance of your prom. The memories will be forever, and if you can possibly do it, go all out on your dress and your evening. If you do go all out, you know that you’ll get the perfect shopping experience, the perfect fairy tale prom dress, and the perfect prom night. You’ll be guaranteed the right style, and the finest quality. This will usually cost between $200 and $800 for your gown, but the experience will be worth every penny.

Remember, your prom night is your evening of fun, fashion, beauty, and memories that will last forever. Look your very best in the perfect prom dress, and enjoy!

Prom Dresses According to Body Type

Finding the perfect formal prom dress has a lot to do with selecting the ideal prom gown style for your body shape. There are many different shapes and sizes to women’s bodies, and they often fall into the following categories:

Athletic
Hourglass (curvy)
Round waist and narrow hip
Straight
Pear shape (with defined waist)
Pear shape (without defined waist)

Have a look at the following descriptions of these body types and consider the dress for prom styles that will be perfect for your body.

If you are Athletic, you have:

Shoulders - wide
Bust - medium-full
Waist - relatively straight
Hips - narrow
Buttocks - small
Legs - long and shapely

Satin prom Dresses that will suit you are a strapless sheath style or a dress with simple straps. Strapless dresses will display your beautiful shoulders, and accentuate your bust. A fitted body will show your feminine curves. A slit in the front will hint at your shapely legs. Simple straps work because it is a classic look that will suit your figure, leaving your shoulders open. A trumpet shaped skirt will give you a stylish alternative to the standard straight and narrow shape.

If you have an hourglass or curvy figure, you have:

Overall delicate structure
Bust - pronounced
Waist - well defined
Hips - curvy
Buttocks - protruding
Legs - shapely

The prom gowns that will suit you are a strapless sheath, or a halter top. Strapless dresses will display your beautiful shoulders, and accentuate your bust. A fitted body will show your feminine curves. A slit in the front will hint at your shapely legs. A halter top is a classic look that will be especially flattering to your figure, with the open back and deep halter neckline displaying your great bone structure. The fitted skirt will show off your narrow waist, and define the curve to your buttocks.

If you’re round waisted and narrow hipped, you have:

Neck - wide
Bust - medium to large
Rib cage area - wide
Back - roundish
Waist - thick
Hips - narrow

You’ll want to wear lower necklines, drop waists, as well as sweetheart necklines and empire cuts. The lower neckline and sweetheart neckline will lengthen your neck and accentuate your bust. The waist should be pretty fitted so that you’ll have shape. A drop waist will lengthen your torso, making you look slimmer. A very high empire waist will also provide form. A flared skirt will lengthen and balance out your figure.

If you’re straight formed, you have:

Shoulders and hips - equally wide
Bust - average
Rib cage - large
Waist - undefined
Bottom - flattish
Legs - slender

An A-line prom dress is ideal for you, since open shoulders will soften your form and make you look more feminine. Your body can be lengthened if it is fitted with an empire waist. The A-line Itself will give your thighs some volume, to accentuate curves.

If you are pear shaped with a defined waist, you have:

Neck - slender
Shoulders - small
Bust - small
Rib cage - narrow
Waist - narrow and well-defined
Hips - wider
Thighs - full

A-line dresses are just what you’re looking for. It will make you look thinner and straighter since it has a straight cut and lower neckline. The waist can be fitted without being too tight. A flared skirt will fit your hips and thighs while making them appear slimmer. Empire waists are also very flattering, since the wider neckline keeps the eye moving horizontally. It also smoothes out your waist and makes your bust line appear fuller.

If you are pear shaped without a waist, you have:

Shoulders - narrow
Bust - small
Waist - full
Hips - wide
Thighs - full

And empire-line dress will be beautiful on you since it gives you a more narrow waist and fuller seeming bust line. A slightly flared skirt will make room for your hips and thighs, and look slimming. You may also consider an A-line dress to give you shape, hide your thighs, and give you an overall lengthened look

There’s a dress for everyone, as long as you know what you’re looking for

Prom Gown Questions

F L O R I S T S-FLOWERS
Flowers for the your Prom date are a very important part of the Prom tradition. Flowers, for him and her, are special way of showing your respect and consideration for your partner. Flowers are special:

B O U T O N N IE RE
Customarily girls buy a boutonniere for their dates. Usually it is a pin-on carnation or rose with baby's breath to be worn traditionally on the right lapel. You may want to order this at the same time your date orders your coursage. Some florists will make a slightly cheaper package deal if you order the two items together. A boutonniere will cost $5-$15.

C O R S A G E :
It is customary for the guy to buy a corsage for his date. It can be a pin-on type, or one she can wear around her wrist. Some even buy a modified nosegay that a girl can carry in her hand. It is a good idea to know what color prom dress your date is wearing so that the corsage you choose doesn't clash. Some couples like to go together and choose the flowers. Again, how much you spend on this item varies greatly and what you want determines the cost. Most people spend $25-$50 on a corsage. But I have seen as much as $150 spent. Be wise in making your choice.

Prom looks for 2010

Whenever you want to choose a Prom dress look that is guaranteed to be fashionable, just think of great examples like Audrey Hepburn and Jennifer Lopez. Beautiful trends for 2010 include tiaras, strings of pearls, very long or very short gloves, and satin ribbons for your hair or wrist. These items provide a classic look, with a touch of this year’s flair.

A fantastic way to really have a look at the details of this year’s style, is to have a look at what was worn (and applauded) at the Golden Globes and the Academy awards. This will add dramatic Hollywood glamour to your prom gown look. When you’re getting ready, simply keep one word in mind: “drama.”

This year, up-do’s are extremely trendy, however it does depend on your dress and the shape of your face to determine which precise style is the one you’re looking for. It’s easy to recognize by the “up” trend, that elegance and formality are truly the way to go this year. However, you have to be careful with how far you take this elegance and formality, because taking it too far can make you seem cold, distant, or haughty.

As an alternative, you can wear your hair down, just remember to keep your hair off your face to maintain the elegant, classy appearance. This will maintain the formality, while looking freer and more easygoing. It’s a look that is more fun.

Your prom dress can be just about anything you want, as long as it flatters your figure. The trend of 2010 is aiming towards ball gown style dresses. This doesn’t mean that you have to choose this style, but you will find that almost everyone is wearing floor length gowns, and if you want to be fashionable and elegant, this is the length you’ll want, too. Sleeves and necklines this year will be sexier and feminine, with a more formal look, but not to the point of “bridesmaid” styles.

Make-up this year will aim for a matte face, smoky, mysterious eyes, and full, glossy, pouty lips. Have a look at some of the pictures of fashionable women in the 1920’s and the 1930’s. An updated version of these styles will be stunning this season. Your cheeks should be light pink, and natural. Nothing dark and “paint by numbers.” Try using a cheek tint instead of a full-out blush. Moreover, gels will have a more natural appearance, and avoid that striped look. If you have oily or shiny skin, bring an anti-shine product or blotting papers in your purse, so that you can soak up perspiration and oil when its needed. Fill in your eyebrows with a soft powder instead of a pencil that can sometimes look harsh. Forget the lip liner this year. Gloss is the thing this year. Your makeup doesn’t have to match your dress precisely, but you can consider simply matching your eyeliner to your dress to give the color a boost.

The theme this year is to be playful, yet tasteful.

Prom Hairstyle Prom Dress

Prom Hairstyle - Looking Your Best on Your Big Night
By Joanne Elliott
Follow the Prom Hairstyle Conversation

As every girl knows, the prom is an excuse to really go to town, and the more glam and glitz, the better! You've got the dress, the shoes, the makeup, the new jewelry... youve booked the limo, and that bubble of excitement is already starting to rise up inside your stomach... Now all you have to do is work out how to fix your hair! And a beautiful prom hairstyle is crucial for your overall appearance.
60's influenced styles are back in fashion, but there are many other ways to make your prom hairstyle one to remember. Here's the long and short of it!

Short hair:

Chics with short hair are lucky because their prom hairstyle will take half the time to do! Short hair is the best type if you want to have a really out of this world flicks at the nape of your neck - think funky pixie! All you need is some hair wax - apply a little and tease out the ends of your hair so that the style frames your face. Alternatively, short haired girlies can sweep their bangs to the side, and pin it with a pretty hair clip. This sophisticated look will work even better if you pick delicate hair accessories that coordinate with your dress and corsage.

Medium hair:

Those of you with medium length hair may think that theres nothing interesting they can do with their hair. But stop and think; youre actually the ideal length because you can make your hair look longer, or shorter, fairly easily. To make your hair look shorter, take small sections, and carefully twist them towards the back of your head. Pin the ends where you would normally have a ponytail, and tease the ends of the twists out away from your head to create cute flicks. To make you hair look longer, attach a quality fake ponytail, and fix your hair like the long haired girls...

Long hair:

You girls with long hair can chose from several prom hair styles. You could leave it down (flowing locks are always great). But if you want to pin it back, remember that it doesnt just have to be a ponytail. Put your hair into a ponytail first of all - (your hair will be too heavy without that extra support, and the style is most likely to slip). Then take the ends of your hair and twist it or curl it, and pin it to the back of your head. You could even have lots of tiny plaits, intertwine them, and then pin them into a beautiful bun shape to form a kind of crown. Sensational!

Curly girlies:

Delicately curled tendrils work especially well if you have an off the shoulder dress. If your hair isnt naturally curly, you can cheat! Use a heat protective spray, and carefully curl the ends of the hair into traditional ringlets. Not only will this new style frame your face but it will create quite an impact... curly girlies always look romantic!

Whatever you do, remember the golden rules. No matter which style you choose, make sure that your hair is shiny, bouncy, and healthy looking. Avoid the temptation of fixing your hair with half a bottle of hairspray. Hair which is weighed down with too much product always looks crusty and dull. Remember, sophistication and coordination is the key. But I'm sure, whatever you decide to do, you'll all look like the prom queen in your beautiful prom dress!

Your makeup doesn’t have to match your dress precisely, but you can consider simply matching your eyeliner to your prom gown to give the color a boost.

The theme this year is to be playful, yet tasteful.

Florida to California, Prom Dresses Selling

By CHRISTINE HAUGHNEY
Published: April 30, 2009
Families living in parts of the nation that have been hardest hit by the recession are still spending whatever they can to make sure their teenagers make it to prom. That means that gown and formalwear shops from Florida to California are thriving even in areas where customers have been directly affected by the housing collapse and the banking slowdown.

“Yes we are in a recession and we’re in a bad recession,” said Georgette Diaz, owner of Georgette’s in Tampa, Fla. “But they’re going to forgo other things to make sure their daughter goes to prom.”

Even in a state battered by the real estate slowdown, Ms. Diaz said, families are still spending $250 to $300 for gowns. She hung a framed sign on her shop door offering teenagers the opportunity to help earn their gowns by helping out at the store on Saturdays leading up to prom, and a few girls took advantage of the offer. But for the most part, she said, their families are paying for prom gowns.

While shoppers at Cardita Formalwear in Port St. Lucie may delay their prom purchases, boys are spending even more this year on tuxes, according to the shop’s owner, Clifford Pearl. He said teenage boys were spending $150 to $160 for designer brands, though they typically spent about $120 to $135 last year.

Mr. Pearl said about 80 percent of his teenage customers tell him, “I want to go all out.”
Even in Southern California where many mortgage banking jobs were concentrated, girls are buying gowns “like there’s no tomorrow,” according to Suzanne Aguila, owner of Carraz Prom Gowns in Glendale and Torrance. Ms. Aguila said they are still spending what they did last year, $300 to $500.

Bianca Cortez, an 18-year-old senior at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, still plans to attend her senior prom even though her family has been under financial pressure. Her grandmother was laid off from a manufacturing job, and Bianca’s mother has had to help her out. Bianca is using her savings from working at an elementary school program to help pay for the $400 deep purple gown she bought at Carraz. Her mother Marlin Cortez said she had passed up shopping for staples for herself like shoes so that she could give her daughter $200 to pay for her gown. She would like to help her daughter out even more with paying for the evening.
“I didn’t want her to miss out,” she said. Ms. Cortez, 37, was not able to go to her own prom because “there just wasn’t money.”

In markets like Charlotte, N.C., which depends heavily on the banking industry for jobs, some families are buying gowns by delaying purchases until prom night and taking advantage of layaway programs. Pam Funderburk, manager of Dar-Lynn’s Bridal and Formal Wear in Matthews, a Charlotte suburb, said at least 25 percent more teenagers were trying to put prom gowns on layaway than a year ago. In the 27 years she has worked in the prom gown business, she said, she has never seen so many teenagers delay paying for their gowns until the weekend of the prom. They used to wrap up buying gowns by March.

“They’re just waiting to see what their parents have to spend,” she said.
Ms. Funderburk also is seeing more mothers and daughters quarrel about the cost of prom gowns. She said she can appreciate the financial stresses because her husband’s income has been cut back drastically in the past year. She feels grateful that she works in the business and can get her daughter her senior prom gown through work.

“I’ve had girls go out of here in tears when their mothers won’t buy them something that they liked,” she said. “I’m sure it had something to do with the economy.”

How to Make Sure You Don't Wear the Same Prom Dress as Someone Else

One Special Night to Be the One and Only Special Girl

For most high school girls, one of the biggest activities they're looking forward is probably the Prom Night party. It's the mother of all dress up parties and it is the night to put on the most glamorous dress and shoes, and get hair and make-up done. During our years in prom dress and evening gown business, we see girls shopping for the perfect Prom dress months in advance. But wait, can you imagine the disappointment if the ultimate nightmare occurs - seeing another girl wearing the exact same dress at Prom?

Body Shaper

Some of us need help when it comes to the body department. Let’s face it: not all of us sport a toned and lean physique. In order to feel smooth and svelte, try some body shapers like the popular Spanx. These products will help control the flabby areas around your tummy, thighs, and behind. There are different types of shapers, including ones in camisole, underwear, and full-body form. They can really make a difference, but make sure you purchase them after (and not before) you get your prom dress, as different dress styles need different body shapers. We offer these items on our website http://www.bargainpromdresses.com under Prom Lingerie.

Promming in the late 1940s, by Margaret Griffin

Doctor Who at the Proms! Musical gatherings in sundry parks. Unheard of composers airing their masterpieces for the first (and last?) time. How times have changed. My Proms days were in the post war years of the 1940s - very austerity. I was a 'teenager' (although I don't think the word had been coined then). A time of ration books, clothing coupons and not a lot of money to spare. No credit cards, so no fear of running up debts - even if there was something we wanted to buy. Prom Dresses.

Early Shopping for Prom Gowns:

Many prom dresses sell out during prom season so for best selection – shop early! From December to February. You'll have the largest selection of prom dresses if you shop during those early months of prom season. These dresses are made in China and many are handbeaded. They take about 8-10 weeks to special order because of the handwork. During the early months of the year, China celebrates their Chinese New Year and their factories are closed for 2-3 weeks. No prom dresses are produced during the celebration weeks. If dresses are ordered right before or during their holiday, that adds about 2-3 weeks to the production time.

If you have an early prom in March or April, you should shop very early if you are shopping and plan to order online at http://www.bargainpromdresses.com take accurate measurements to get the best fit as formal prom dresses usually run small. Alterations are important for a perfect fit so don’t be discouraged if your dress doesn’t fit you perfectly. Purchasing your prom dress as early as possible will allow time for alterations and fittings. Buy your jewelry, shoes and other accessories at the same time to completely coordinate your prom look. After you are all done with shopping and alterations you can relax and enjoy dreaming about your big night! Have a great time!

Prom Dresses

Prom dresses are such a fun thing to contemplate. Just the idea of going to a prom excites most girls. The big dilemma is what prom dress should I choose? Well first you should take a careful look at your figure type. If you have a lithe figure you can wear just about any gown you wish. Unfortunately, most girls do not have a perfect figure so they really have to pay attention to what they wear. If you have a large bust and small hips, then you will want to wear a sexy gown with a dropped waistline to show off both of your attributes. If you have large hips and a small bust line then perhaps the best gown for you would be an Empire style that flows from just under your bust line and flares at the hip line. Whatever you wear, you will have a wonderful time at the prom if you just remember that you are the best with whatever figure type you have. Have a great prom night!

Prom Night 2010

Your prom night is perhaps the best memory you’ll ever have of high school. The special dance, the band playing, your stunning prom dresses, and the “Prom Queen” honors are some of the many things you should look forward to during prom night. With so, it’s very important that you are prepared for that night because if you are stressed about a lot of things it would surely be seen on your face. You wouldn’t want to look stressed out during the most important day of your life.

Prom Dress Styles

Before picking out your dream prom dresses, there are a lot of things you should put into consideration. The style you choose should reflect the image and story you want to actualize during your prom night. Before you make your decision, have a good scan of all the available prom dresses in the market.

If you want a fairytale look and become the Belle of the Ball, then the Princess Prom Dress is perfect for you. A Princess Prom Dress has a fitted bodice which makes it perfect for all figures because it accentuates the waist. It also comes with an A-line skirt for a “princess” feel. You can either have a strapped, strapless or sleeved princess prom dress. Because of the elaborate details, your jewels should be classic, but not too flashy to a point that the attention is all on your big chandelier earrings. Buy accessories which somehow pairs up with the embellishments and designs of your prom dress.

Be a style icon with sexy and sleek prom dresses. Flaunt your bust by wearing dresses with plunging necklines. If you’re not endowed with gracious busts, you can show your “sexy back” by wearing a low back prom dress. A good thing about this dress is you don’t need to worry about your bust falling out. Feel like a Hollywood star by wearing a prom dress with a drain. Fishtail trains usually accentuate the curves bringing out the sexier side of you.

If you want to be a trendsetter, then a short prom dress is perfect for you. Flaunt your long legs in a variety of short prom dresses. Be more voluminous and feminine in a pick up skirt. Or you can channel the 80’s retro feel with a puffball skirt. You can also try to look like a quirky princess with a tulle skirt. Try to go with sandals with straps around the ankle.

Although your family and friends might help dictate your decision in picking your prom dress, remember that only you can rock the style you want. No matter what style you choose, the most important thing about picking out your perfect prom dresses is the fact that it can make you feel and look good, inside and out.
